Hear their stories of transformation and connection as they relate to the human-animal relationship. And as they share their experiences, a wealth of insights, tips and perspectives await you. It's a testament to the power of photography and video as instruments to build, share and amplify what's important to you. We're over the moon about this opportunity, and can't wait for May 20th. Get all the details below!
Thursday, May 20th @ 5:00pm Pacific Time | Free to Attend
A dog. A cat. Whoever your cherished animal friends may be, they all have this in common: They teach us. They ground us. They may even rescue us. We all have our personal stories.
This May 20th is National Rescue Dog Day and we'll be celebrating the Day with what we think of as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Looking Glass is bringing together three award-winning visual storytellers to celebrate the beauty, love and life lessons that come with having rescue animals in our lives. During this highly engaging discussion, we’ll explore the topics of photography and human-animal relationships, and how each of these professional photographers have combined them into their photography and everyday lives. You likely know their names already. And if you don't, you'll be glad that you do now: Photojournalist Carol Guzy, Portrait Photographer Tamara Lackey and Nature Photographer Kristi Odom.
We had the opportunity to "hangout" with these three wonderful humans on Zoom recently, and if that experience is any indication, this Online Live meetup event is going to be awesome. Be prepared to laugh, to be inspired and even feel a bit emotional as they tell their stories and share their images. You'll learn how they took their passion and made it happen. You'll hear stories that may amaze you. And you'll see photographs that will inspire you.
Of Note: Tamara Lackey founded and runs an incredible rescue center: Beautiful Together Sanctuary. We provide more information on this non-profit below. If you can, we encourage donations to this Sanctuary. To show our thanks, your donation will enter you into a raffle for a signed print. We're giving away a print from each of these accomplished photographers.
HOW TO DONATE: In honor of National Rescue Dog Day, we encourage attendees of this unique event to make a donation (big or small) to Beautiful Together Sanctuary. CLICK HERE TO DONATE. (Make sure to leave a "message" in the message box that Looking Glass sent you. That's how we'll know to enter you into the raffle.
Meet the Photographers
CAROL GUZY: Photojournalist, recipient of four Pulitzer Prizes + Nikon Ambassador
Talk about an inspiration. Carol had us mesmerized with her images and stories. As a photojournalist who has received four Pulitzer Prizes, we're confident you know what we mean. And her love of animals could not be any greater. There's so much more to tell!
KRISTI ODOM: Internationally acclaimed photographer/filmmaker + Nikon Ambassador
Let's just say you can't help but smile and feel gratitude when hanging out with her. And her photography and filmmaking are truly next level. It's impossible to say enough about Kristi here. So joins and meet her online on the 20th!
TAMARA LACKEY: Award-winning Portrait Photographer + Nikon Ambassador
Tamara is an incredibly accomplished storyteller. And as she told us a bit of her story, she had us feeling inspired and believing in the goodness of humanity. Why? Because she does a bazillion things to make this world a better place.
Discover Beautiful Together
This outstanding sanctuary's goal is simple: To connect the vulnerable and the voiceless in purposeful ways that benefit us all.
The Beautiful Together Animal Sanctuary was created as a safe and nurturing environment for animals in need of refuge, our mission is to love, care for and provide a home for abused, abandoned and neglected animals so they can one day find families of their own. They create ongoing programs for children in foster care, group homes and at-risk situations to visit the animals, help care for them and spend time in “pet therapy” sessions: bottle feeding kittens, socializing puppies, brushing horses – and so much more.
More About National Rescue Dog Day
National Rescue Dog Day was founded by Lisa Wiehebrink of Tails That Teach to bring awareness to the countless number of amazing dogs in shelters waiting to be adopted, to promote humane education for young children, and to encourage spay/neuter. The day was inspired by Cooper (pictured below) who was rescued in 2009 and now the main character in the Tails That Teach book series that teach children how to be and kind and gentle to their pets.
