Sarah Deragon, founder of “Portraits to the People,” is bringing even more new classes to the Looking Glass curriculum! Sarah will teach her Creative Portraits class at Looking Glass on two Sundays as follows:
In this class, professional portrait photographer Sarah Deragon will teach you how to capture stunning portraits using natural light, find and use beautiful backgrounds, help your subjects relax, and help you bring out their most authentic expressions. Sarah specializes in working with people who hate having their photos taken, so she will give you hands-on experience with building rapport with a client and she will share her expertise on giving outfit advice to enhance your portraits. Whether you're a beginner or more experienced, you'll gain a ton of new skills. Bring any camera you have—DSLRs, iPhones, smartphones, point-and-shoot cameras, or even film cameras—and get ready to elevate your portrait photography! As noted above, we will meet twice for this class: the first session on 9/15 will include instruction and shooting, and a few weeks later, we will gather again for an image review.
The goals for the class are to help you feel confident when connecting with your subject (who may not always enjoy being photographed), be prepared to offer outfit advice and watch for potential issues, gain confidence in offering posing tips, identify ideal locations for creative portrait sessions, and learn how to work with natural light for portraits.
There are no specific prerequisites for this class other than bringing your creative spirit!
Sarah Deragon is a self-taught professional portrait photographer residing in the Bay Area. After getting burned out at her day job, she picked up a camera in her 30s, reconnected with her creativity, and launched a business called Portraits To The People. Her passion for photography has always centered around capturing the very best version of people—focusing on portraiture that’s fun and authentic by utilizing natural light, creative locations, and some good jokes. She photographs artists and creatives, entrepreneurs and small business owners, and families. All of her services are built around telling compelling visual stories, with the majority of her work falling into not-so-corporate headshots for individuals, stellar online dating photos, cool custom stock photos for small businesses, and creative portrait sessions. Additionally, she has been teaching iPhoneography for over 10 years, sharing her expertise in capturing and editing stunning photos using just an iPhone. Helping people take better photos with their phones is one of her greatest joys! Check out her IG: @sarahderagon and @portraitstothepeople
