Looking Glass is now open at 2095 Rose Street in Berkeley, in the heart of the North Shattuck neighborhood. We are surrounded by some of Berkeley’s most beloved restaurants, shops, gathering places, and cultural landmarks — many of them local institutions that have been part of this city’s story for decades, just like us.
A visit to Looking Glass can be more than a quick errand. It can be a walk through one of Berkeley’s most distinctive neighborhoods, a stop for coffee or lunch, a visit to the farmers’ market, a stroll through Live Oak Park, or an afternoon of photography, food, art, and discovery.

One of the joys of our new home is that visiting Looking Glass now places you right in the middle of one of Berkeley’s most walkable and delicious neighborhoods.
We are just steps from longtime Berkeley favorites like Chez Panisse, The Cheese Board, Saul’s Restaurant & Delicatessen, and the many cafes, bakeries, galleries, shops, and small businesses that give North Shattuck its character.
Just up the street, you’ll find Live Oak Park and the Berkeley Art Center, making the neighborhood especially easy to pair with a camera walk, a class day, a roll of film, or a little creative wandering.
And on Thursdays, the North Berkeley Farmers’ Market takes place right outside our doors, bringing produce, flowers, food, music, and neighborhood life to Shattuck and Rose.

What you can do at our new location.
Our Rose Street home brings together the core of what Looking Glass has become: a place for gear, guidance, learning, rentals, film, and community.
- Shop new and pre-owned cameras, lenses, bags, film, accessories, and photographic tools.
- Pick up online orders and special orders once you have received confirmation that your order is ready.
- Rent cameras, lenses, lighting, and creative tools for travel, events, projects, and experiments.
- Talk with real photographers about the gear that fits how you actually shoot.
- Ask about Gear Outfitting, private lessons, classes, workshops, and community experiences.
- Browse film, analog photography supplies, and creative essentials.
Parking, transit, and arrival.
Street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood, though availability can vary depending on the time of day.
Please allow a little extra time for parking, especially on weekends and during Thursday farmers’ market hours. Some nearby streets may include metered parking or residential parking zones, so please check posted signs carefully.
If you are picking up a larger order, rental kit, or several items, feel free to call ahead so we can help make the pickup as smooth as possible.
North Shattuck is also very walkable, bike-friendly, and easy to pair with lunch, coffee, shopping, art, or a stroll through the neighborhood.
Picking up an online order.
If you placed an online order for store pickup, please wait until you receive confirmation that your order is ready before coming in.
Some inventory and special-order items may take a little extra time to locate or prepare as we continue settling into the new space. We will contact you as soon as your order is ready.
Rental pickups and returns.
If you have a rental reservation, please review your pickup and return details before arriving.
For the smoothest rental experience, please bring:
- A valid photo ID.
- The payment card used for the rental, if applicable.
- Any required deposit or verification materials.
- A little extra time if this is your first rental with us.
If your plans change, or if you need help deciding whether a rental is the right fit for your project, reach out before your pickup. We are happy to help you think it through.
Special orders and gear guidance.
One of the things that makes Looking Glass different is that we do not believe every photographer needs the same answer.
If you are choosing between camera systems, lenses, lighting setups, bags, tripods, or film tools, come talk with us. We can help you sort through the options, understand the tradeoffs, and choose equipment that fits your actual life — not just a spec sheet.
For deeper one-on-one help, we recommend booking a Gear Outfitting Session. It gives us time to understand how you shoot, what you are trying to make, what you already own, and what kind of setup will serve you best.
Classes, workshops, and community.
Our new Rose Street home is part of a bigger vision for Looking Glass: a place where photography is not just sold, but practiced, shared, taught, and celebrated.
Classes and workshops will continue to be a central part of what we do, from beginner-friendly learning experiences to specialized workshops in portraiture, nature, lighting, printing, film, and creative practice.

We have been outfitting photographers since 1971. Over the years, Looking Glass has lived in different places and taken different forms, but the heart of the store has remained the same: real people helping real photographers find the tools, confidence, and community they need to keep creating.
Rose Street feels like the right next home for that work.
It gives us a place to keep building around what matters most: thoughtful gear, practical guidance, creative learning, and a photography community rooted here in Berkeley.
