The FUJIFILM instax Pal 2 is a palm-sized digital camera designed to make everyday photography feel playful again. Its classic camera-inspired body includes an optical viewfinder, a top-mounted LCD screen, a command dial, and an analog-style lever, giving you a more tactile way to photograph than simply reaching for your phone.

A 10-megapixel sensor, 28mm-equivalent F2.2 lens, autofocus, built-in flash, and 30 creative effects make it easy to create distinctive digital images wherever you go. Transfer your photographs to the instax Pal app for editing and sharing, or turn your favorites into real instax prints using a compatible instax printer or hybrid camera.

The Looking Glass Take

The Pal 2 makes the most sense when you understand what it is and what it is not. It is a tiny digital camera, not an instant camera, and it does not print photographs by itself. A compatible instax printer or hybrid camera is required if you want physical prints.

It is also not meant to replace a modern smartphone for technical image quality. The small sensor and simple lens are part of the experience, producing photographs with more of a compact-digital-camera character. You can even switch from the full 10-megapixel setting to a deliberately low-resolution 1-megapixel mode when you want a stronger early-digicam look.

What makes the Pal 2 appealing is the experience of carrying and using it. It is small enough to have with you nearly anywhere, while its viewfinder, physical dial, shutter button, and mode lever make taking pictures feel more intentional and fun. It is a charming choice for trips, parties, everyday snapshots, and anyone drawn to the current low-fi digital-camera revival.

Just remember that the instax Pal app is an important part of the system. You will use it to transfer images, install effects, edit and share photographs, operate the camera remotely, and prepare images for printing.

A Camera That Fits in Your Palm

The Pal 2 measures approximately 3.6 inches across and weighs just over three ounces. Its small size makes it easy to slip into a pocket, purse, or small bag and bring along when a larger camera would stay at home.

The White finish and classic camera-inspired shape give it a clean, understated appearance. An included hand strap makes it easier to keep the little camera secure while walking or shooting in a crowd.

An Analog-Inspired Way to Shoot

Unlike the original Pal, the Pal 2 includes both an optical viewfinder and a 1.3-inch color LCD screen. The viewfinder provides a familiar eye-level shooting experience, while the top-mounted screen can be used to review settings and images.

A physical command dial selects creative effects, while the camera’s analog-style lever switches between shooting formats and activates instax Animation mode. These controls make the Pal 2 feel more like a miniature camera than a smartphone accessory.

10-Megapixel or Deliberately Lo-Fi

The Pal 2 offers two image-resolution settings:

• 10-megapixel mode: Records 3776 × 2832-pixel images for greater detail and printing flexibility

• 1-megapixel mode: Records 1280 × 960-pixel images with a deliberately lower-resolution digital look

Its fixed 28mm-equivalent F2.2 lens provides a comfortably wide view for friends, travel, interiors, and everyday scenes. Autofocus includes face detection, and the lens can focus on subjects as close as approximately 3.1 inches.

There is no optical or digital zoom. Framing is handled the traditional way by moving closer to or farther from your subject.

Thirty Creative Effects

The instax Pal app provides five effect themes, with six looks in each theme:

• Modern

• Y2K

• Vintage

• Chromatic

• Fantasy

Use the app to load a complete theme onto the camera or create a custom collection of up to six favorite effects. Once installed, effects can be selected directly from the Pal 2’s command dial before taking a picture.

The available looks range from clean and softly rendered to faded, pixelated, monochrome, color-shifted, and intentionally nostalgic.

Create an instax Animation

Move the camera’s lever into instax Animation mode, then press and hold the shutter button to capture up to 10 consecutive photographs. When transferred to the app, the sequence becomes a flipbook-style animation that can be viewed or shared digitally.

You can also select an individual frame from the sequence for editing, sharing, or printing.

Choose Your instax Format

Before taking a photograph, use the camera’s lever to select one of four framing options:

• instax mini

• instax SQUARE

• instax WIDE

• Frameless 4:3

This lets you compose with the intended print shape in mind instead of cropping the image afterward. Photographs can be printed using a compatible instax Link printer or supported instax hybrid camera. Printers, hybrid cameras, and instax film are sold separately.

Transfer, Edit, and Share

The free instax Pal app connects to the camera through Bluetooth for wireless transfer and remote shooting. Your smartphone can act as a remote shutter, which is useful for group photographs, selfies, and unusual camera angles.

For faster transfer at full 10-megapixel resolution, the Pal 2 includes a built-in USB Type-C connector that can plug directly into a compatible smartphone. USB transfer takes approximately 0.75 seconds per image, while Bluetooth transfer sends a smaller 1280 × 960-pixel version and takes approximately 15 seconds per image.

Once transferred, images can be edited, decorated with text and stickers, shared online, or prepared for instax printing.

Internal and Expandable Storage

The camera’s internal memory holds approximately 100 photographs. A microSD, microSDHC, or microSDXC card can be added for expanded storage, with support for cards up to 2TB.

At the 10-megapixel setting, approximately 400 images can be stored per gigabyte of card capacity. Memory cards are sold separately.

Remote Shooting from More Angles

The included camera angle adjustment accessory props the Pal 2 at different angles for tabletop photography, group pictures, and self-portraits. Pair the camera with the instax Pal app to preview your composition and trigger the shutter from your smartphone.
