Learn to see color more clearly, make corrections with greater confidence, and bring out the best in every photograph.

Where & When

Live online class via Zoom on October 1st at 6:00 PM Pacific Time.

About This Class

Was that sunset more yellow or pink? What does Arctic glacial ice really look like? How do you accurately render the color of an animal you have never seen?

During his career as a fine-art printmaker and retoucher, Rich Seiling has faced some unusually demanding color-correction challenges. He has been asked to get the color right in places he has never visited, under light he did not experience, and for subjects he had never seen. His work still needed to satisfy photographers with expert, sometimes PhD-level knowledge of those subjects.

That may sound like an impossible task, but Rich believes accurate color begins with something anyone can improve: learning how to see color more clearly.

In this two-hour online class, Rich will share the approach he developed through correcting and printing hundreds of thousands of photographs. You’ll learn how to recognize color relationships, identify what is preventing an image from looking right, and use the color-correction tools in Lightroom and Photoshop with greater purpose and control.

These are practical, proven techniques developed through real production work. Rich and his team have used them to prepare photographs for fine-art books, gallery exhibitions, and museum-quality prints throughout the country.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to observe and evaluate color more accurately
  • How memory and visual perception can influence color decisions
  • How to recognize unwanted color casts and imbalances
  • How to determine what an image needs before reaching for an editing tool
  • How to use Lightroom and Photoshop color controls more effectively
  • How to create color that feels natural, expressive, and appropriate to the subject
  • How stronger color decisions can improve both your digital files and finished prints

This class is designed for photographers who want to feel more confident working with color. It will be useful whether you are still learning to edit your photographs or already have experience with Lightroom or Photoshop and want a more disciplined, reliable approach.

Meet Your Instructor

Rich Seiling is a photographer, educator, and master printmaker whose career has been shaped by a lifelong study of light, color, landscape, and the photographic print.

After beginning his photographic education in the darkroom, Rich explored digital photography and printmaking in the early 1990s. He went on to co-found West Coast Imaging, where he helped develop museum-quality digital printing methods and worked with photographers including Michael Forsberg, Galen Rowell, Jack Dykinga, and Robert Glenn Ketchum. His team has produced prints for museum exhibitions and leading galleries and completed prepress work for art books published by Taschen, Houghton Mifflin, and others.

Rich’s streamlined editing workflow has been tested through the production of tens of thousands of fine-art prints and taught to photographers throughout the country. As an instructor, he helps photographers gain control of their craft, strengthen their visual awareness, and discover the stories that are uniquely theirs to tell.

Rich lives outside Nashville with his wife and creative partner, Susan, and their three children. See more of his work at richseiling.com.
