A Creative Masterclass for Photographers Who Want to Capture People With Authenticity, Ease, and Real Confidence
Creating great portraits isn’t just about lighting or composition — it’s about connection, trust, direction, and learning how to truly see the person in front of your lens. In this immersive two-part masterclass, professional portrait photographer Sarah Deragon will teach you how to bring confidence, clarity, and creative presence to every portrait you make.
This masterclass goes far beyond basic posing or simple camera settings. Sarah shares the same techniques she uses in her professional sessions with artists, activists, entrepreneurs, small business owners, and families — the real tools that help people relax, express themselves, and show up in portraits feeling like their true selves.
With a dynamic mix of hands-on practice, guided direction, discussion, and creative exploration, this is a premium experience designed for photographers who want to deepen their portrait craft, refine their voice, and walk away with real, repeatable skill.
Session 1 — The Portrait Experience (In-Person, 3 hours)
A dynamic, hands-on creative session at Looking Glass where you’ll learn:
Crafting Connection
How to build trust quickly and create a safe, comfortable environment for your subject.
Confident Direction & Natural Posing
Simple, intuitive prompts that bring out genuine expression and relaxed, believable poses.
Seeing Light for Portraits
Using natural light, shade, reflectors, and backgrounds to flatter your subject and create mood.
Creative Composition
Angles, cropping, negative space, and movement that bring energy and personality into your work.
Your Creative Voice
How to make choices that feel aligned with the portraits you want to create — not the ones you think you “should” make.
You’ll practice photographing people in class, applying what you learn immediately with Sarah’s guidance.
Session 2 — Image Review & Creative Refinement (Zoom, ~90 minutes)
Two weeks after the in-person session, you’ll meet with Sarah and your classmates for a live online image review. This powerful follow-up session includes:
-
Thoughtful critique of your portraits
-
Discussion of intention vs. execution
-
What’s working — and how to take it further
-
How to strengthen direction, connection, and composition
Students consistently say that the review session is where everything clicks — and where their confidence grows most.
