A legendary 6x7 rangefinder body that combines the image quality of medium-format film with a camera that is surprisingly comfortable to carry and use.
The Mamiya 7 II has earned its reputation by delivering exceptionally large, detailed 6x7 negatives without the size and weight normally associated with a medium-format system. Its rangefinder design, straightforward controls, and relatively lightweight construction make it especially appealing for landscape, travel, documentary, architectural, and environmental portrait photography.
This is a camera for photographers who want the richness and presence of a large film negative but do not want to carry a traditional medium-format SLR. With a compatible Mamiya N-series lens attached, the Mamiya 7 II offers aperture-priority automatic exposure, manual exposure control, exposure compensation, auto-exposure lock, and multiple-exposure capability. Its leaf-shutter lenses also allow quiet operation and flash synchronization across their available shutter-speed range.
This listing is for the camera body only. A compatible Mamiya 7 or Mamiya 7 II system lens is required and is sold separately.
Condition
This champagne-color Mamiya 7 II body is in Good cosmetic condition.
Apart from the issue noted below, the body presents closer to Very Good condition. The champagne finish is generally clean, the black grip and rear covering are well preserved, and the controls, lettering, viewfinder surround, and major exterior panels present nicely. There are scattered light scratches, scuffs, finish marks, and edge wear consistent with normal use, particularly around the base plate and lower edges.
There is slight impact damage to one bottom corner of the base plate, including a small area of visible denting and associated finish wear. This damage is clearly shown in the product photographs and is the primary reason we are rating the camera’s overall cosmetic condition as Good rather than Very Good.
The camera includes its Mamiya body cap. Please review all photographs closely, as they show the actual camera being offered and form an important part of the condition description.
The Looking Glass Take
The Mamiya 7 II is one of the rare medium-format cameras that feels genuinely practical away from the studio. It produces a generous 6x7 negative with beautiful detail, tonal depth, and enlarging potential, yet the camera itself remains comparatively light, quiet, and easy to carry.
Its rangefinder design also creates a very different working experience from a medium-format SLR. You are not looking directly through the taking lens, and the camera encourages careful framing, deliberate focusing, and a slightly slower way of seeing. For landscapes, travel, architecture, documentary work, and environmental portraits, that can be a wonderful combination.
This particular body has some honest cosmetic wear and slight impact damage along the base plate, so it is not one for the collector seeking a nearly flawless example. It is better suited to a photographer who has been looking for a Mamiya 7 II to use, carry, and make photographs with. The rest of the body presents quite well, and the champagne finish remains especially distinctive.
