Barndoors shape light; they don’t soften it. For softer light, use a softbox/umbrella and add the barndoors to a harder source for accents.

Rotate the assembly to match your frame lines (verticals stay vertical).

Keep gels clear of very hot sources; allow ventilation around the modeling lamp.
